Re: [Titanaircraft] Considering purchasing a used Titan II

Thanks Tim for the quick response!  I live in the hot Central Valley of California and am looking for a 912 equipped plane to deal with density altitude issues here during the summer.  I have read on some other sites about motor mount issues with 912 equipped Tornados and that the newer models had a fix for that.  Do you or someone else know what year that fix was made standard, or if in fact, the motor mounts are an issue with the 912 equipped planes?  Thanks.

Hello, Joseph.

A few things come to mind, although purchasing a Tornado isn't much different than buying any other used airplane. I'll list a few that are important to me.

Always hangared.
Decide on the power plant you want, i.e. 2 vs. 4 stroke. Don't limit your purchase to CHEAP.
All log books from the beginning.
Type of climate the plane has existed in, i.e. humid vs. dry, etc.
Is it registered properly?
TTAE
Fuel capacity
Any damage history?
How many previous owners?
Avionics
Thoroughly look it over, inside and out. Get an A&P or another experienced (Titan) builder to look at it with you.
Avoid brokers unless they have great references.
Reason for sale
What needs fixing and/or replacement, if any.

I'm sure many in the Group will come up with more things but these would be a the top of my list.

Good luck!

Hi Folks,

I have been very interested in all the good information that I have been reading about Titan Tornados on this site. I want to buy a plane and the Titan seems to be a good choice on paper. I am thinking about purchasing a used Titan Tornado II and was wondering if there is anything special that I should look for. I have been flying a Piper PA-12 and was recently checked out in a A-22 Valor Light Sport equipped with a Rotax 912. Any advice for a prospective first time buyer? Thanks.

Joseph
