I have read on some other sites about motor mount issues with 912 equipped Tornados and that the newer models had a fix for that. Do you or someone else know what year that fix was made standard, or if in fact, the motor mounts are an issue with the 912 equipped planes? Thanks.

There was a factory advisory a while back on the engine mounting studs on the frame. It was pretty specific, only applying if you have the 912 100hp without the overload clutch (probably not a lot of those around, most have the clutch nowadays) and I can't remember which plane. The welds around the studs could crack, I think a picture is available with the advisory from titan. I've seen the picture (it may be in the Files section) and the cracking that could occur was very evident.
It didn't apply to my plane (II SS with 912uls with overload clutch) but you can bet your britches I still crawled up into the back of it and complied with it anyway and still do on at least an annual basis. No cracks in mine tho.
I think titan fixed this with stronger welds a long time ago so it's not an issue on the newer planes.
But might be worth inspecting on an older plane you're looking at. You have to look inside at the frame in the area above the tank where the engine sits. I use an inspection mirror to check mine.
As for density altitude affects, try to find a plane with the 26' wing. I live in northern NM at an alt. of about 7000'. The density altitude was about 8000' MSL (which is typical a lot of the time) yesterday evening when I went and flew and the long wing really helps - I was still getting about 700fpm. We have another titan, a II S, on our airport and he's got the 23.5 footer. We both have the 912 100hp but I can outclimb him by a bunch due to the wing (and partially my prop which is a little bigger diameter than his)...

I am thinking about purchasing a used Titan Tornado II and was wondering if there is anything special that I should look for. I have been flying a Piper PA-12 and was recently checked out in a A-22 Valor Light Sport equipped with a Rotax 912. Any advice for a prospective first time buyer? Thanks.
