Re: [Titanaircraft] anyone in Wi have a 2 place titan?

I seem to recall flights being given by some manufacturers.  Titan owners present could possibly give you a flight, also.  Granted, I have not been to OshKosh in years, but at Sun 'n Fun it isn't that hard to get a ride if you make arrangements to go over to South Lakeland, so that could be done at a nearby airport at OshKosh, as well.

I really don't know if there is a factory plane there that could be used for rides.  There wasn't one at Sun 'n Fun, in that they only had an incomplete SS on display, but there should be a number of owners or dealers at OshKosh with their planes.

I could give you a ride in a Titan II, but I'm in Ohio, so it would be just as convenient to go to the factory, plus you would want a ride in a IIS or IISS anyway.

I have one at 25D. That's just north of St. Paul in Minnesota. You
could see it and take a ride in it.

Hi im wondering, if their is anyone one in Wi with a 2place titan tornado. I recently got my private pilot cert. and ive always been interested in the titan. Im not sure if i want to just buy one, or maybe go threw the whole process of building it, could be fun. and im a A&P mechanic, and do a lot of sheet metal at work, so i should kind know what im doing.

So im hopeing to maybe meet someone, with one to gain all the knowledge i can about them, and maybe go for a little ride in one so i can get a taste of what one is like.

I live in osh, and would be willing to fly to where your location as long as its Wi someplace, i have a 172 i can use pretty much when ever.

I just want my own little plane, that not crazy expensive to operate.

[Titanaircraft] Re: Starter Relay wires (throttle cable on Jab)

Kimberly:

My lever is the 912 kind, it extends pretty much far enough to find your position, so far I've swap positions with the lever's pivot point and the cable attachment.
Because of the increased angle of the cable to reach the new position, the adjustment is slightly different; right now it doesn't reach the full potential of the carb's arm, so the throttle handle stops just a nail from the actual stopper at the carb when going wide open.

I'll test it as is to see my idle, which seems to be just slightly above the minimum (which I already tested was too low), if it needs more, the idle screw should take care of it.

As you said, I might need to re-drill the hole, but the new position might be just mm from the actual one as the run of both the carb's arm and throttle handle are quite close...
I might take a pic and post it...

Thanks,
Rob.

Just ignore and insulate the small pole that doesn't do anything when you apply power to it, but especially do NOT ground it. That pole is used for an ignition bypass for DC-powered ignition systems with a ballast resistor. This means that when the starter relay is energized (frame grounded properly) with the battery cables connected, that pole goes hot and becomes a dead short to ground, and that circuit will promptly go up in smoke.

Re: [Titanaircraft] Breakers?

Tim,
Thanks. That indeed makes simple sense. I'm not an electrical guru by any means. And what I've come across in this plane already (many spade splices) convinces me to go through and redo what was done here by the previous owner. No offense to him I just do not want problems later.

Ken, using only one breaker for multiple uses isn't going to help you down the road in trouble shooting the popped breaker. Hooking everything up to a single breaker will also cause you to lose everything wired to it when trouble hits.  I'd suggest you install breakers individually, each with its own required fuse load.

Hey everyone,
Curious how many switched breakers you guys are running. My plane orginally had one 25 amp main. Now I'm adding a radio, gps, intercom , 12v cig power, single landing light, aux heater and facet fuel pump. It came with the EIS using standard 912 engine sensors, fuel sender, and a single strobe. I beleive that's everything. I was considering adding a separate 25 amp switched breaker for the added items. Looking for suggestions. Thanks in advanced.

Re: [Titanaircraft] Re: Starter Relay wires

Rob,

I'm curious if you have the 2-stroke throttle lever or the 912 lever. The old two-stroke lever doesn't have a cable attachment that hangs below the pivot bolt. Also, you will need to re-drill the 912 lever anyway to set the correct cable travel for the carb. Even so, the correct position may be further inboard than the lever has for a flat area. If that is the case, you can make an extension bracket and bolt it to the throttle lever (outboard to inboard) so you have a correct position for the full lever travel since the correct point may end up on the Z-bend on the lever.

I've flown and worked on a few Tornados that had the throttle cables slapped-together so that just connected the cable to the throttle lever in the factory hole without re-drilling it for the correct travel, so the entire throttle range was covered by about half the throttle lever travel and it would buckle the cable slack by trying to push the cable back in the housing when moving the lever beyond half of the lever travel, which obviously does nothing for power since you're already at full throttle.

The I've seen others drill a hole through the limiter/lever-pivot plate and stick a bolt through to keep the throttle lever from moving its full potential travel. Again--another mickey-mouse way to do it -- and if I ever see that one again, it will be too soon.

Correct on the enrichment cable, just leave it if it is moving in the direction you want. Pulling against the spring enables the circuit.

Thank you again,
I'll have to get that throttle cable to come from the back then, but you have to turn that carb bracket around (or make a new one)? Do you have a photo of that on a 2200 perhaps?
My Eng. serial # is 2785.
As for the enrichment (I call it the choke) I think should be fine as is. Is this one closed with the spring relaxed?

Thanks,
Rob.

[Titanaircraft] Breakers?

Hey everyone,
Curious how many switched breakers you guys are running. My plane orginally had one 25 amp main. Now I'm adding a radio, gps, intercom , 12v cig power, single landing light, aux heater and facet fuel pump. It came with the EIS using standard 912 engine sensors, fuel sender, and a single strobe. I beleive that's everything. I was considering adding a separate 25 amp switched breaker for the added items. Looking for suggestions. Thanks in advanced.
Ken

[Titanaircraft] Contact magazine article on Lift Reserve/AOA

The next issue of Contact Magazine has an article on the Angle of Attack/ Lift Reserve indicator. See: http://contactmagazine.com/

To support that issue, I'm offering an unfinished parts kit (all the parts but you do the work) at a reduced price of $110.
See: http://www.pipcom.com/~cowcam/AOAr.htm

There is also more feedback from folks now using it; all of it positive.

[Titanaircraft] Re: Question about Tornado II for sale

Ken,
I looked at this plane about a year ago. It took me about 15 min. to realise it wasn't the project for me. The fuselage looked very nice as a plane with no time should but when I started to inspect the wing I found a large area of skin where the "D" section is riveted to the spar near the left wing tip that had been peeled back and who knows what had been done underneath. That is the problem I've seen with several planes, especially the ones that were brought in to certification through the ELSA process. Most of them had no maintenance history and no history of repairs. Watch out and good luck.
Don Forse
>
> I am contemplating purchasing a tornado II from an individual out of Raton, NM reg N368KS. Well it is being listed as a new fuselage with a used wing. TTSN for airframe is 1 hr. No engine and still under phase I limitations. Does anybody know anything about this aircraft? I was thinking about purchasing this aircraft and putting a 582 getting it reinspected and getting a new phase I limitations. Is this a good idea or stay way from it?

[Titanaircraft] Re: Starter Relay wires

Kimberly:

I think I got it, I'll move my cable attachment to the opposite side on my pivot bolt in the Throttle handle, that should take care of it.
Anyways if you have a pic handy I'll be glad to see it, I noticed you need some safety wire on those stoppers...
Rgds,

Rob.

[Titanaircraft] Re: Starter Relay wires

Thank you again,
I'll have to get that throttle cable to come from the back then, but you have to turn that carb bracket around (or make a new one)? Do you have a photo of that on a 2200 perhaps?
My Eng. serial # is 2785.
As for the enrichment (I call it the choke) I think should be fine as is. Is this one closed with the spring relaxed?

Thanks,
Rob.

I'd talk to your local FSDO first about that before you spend
any money and see what they'd require to do that. I've always
found them to be helpful in sorting thru certification stuff.

Re: [Titanaircraft] Re: Starter Relay wires

Rob,

Correct on the cables. All functions on the Bing 4-stroke carbs are pull to close (if you think of the enrichment as choke). Throttle pulls to close and the starting enrichment circuit pulls for 'rich'.

I can't remember which generation of 2200 you have, but the Jabiru 2200 single phase alternator provides 5 pulses per rev for the tach setting.

The E1 stratomaster was giving me the wrong RPM readings, do you know what the setting is for the pulses of the 2200 engine and the Temp probe type from Jabiru?

Thanks,
Rob.

Very Nice Randy. The only thing that would have made it nicer is if they had used one of my pictures of you so I could be famous too. LOL.
Hope to see you at Oshkosh. I will be there Tues, Wed, and Thurs.

Re: [Titanaircraft] Re: Jab 2200 oil pressure

John, it's not an issue with the PTT.  Everything's fine now.  I chalk it up to a slightly low oil level creating higher oil temps which lowered the OP on that flight. After the engine oil cooled down while taxing back to the hangar, everything went back to normal.

OH, forgot....try to see if anything changes when you push to talk no the radio. I sometimes had a problem with my CGT increasing on my glass cockpit. As soon as I realesed it, it went away. That too was intermittant.

At normal cruise everything was OK except my oil temp had reached 201 degrees for a little while which is a little higher than I'd ever seen it before. I have had that happen intermittantly for years. Sometimes it normal others it pops up. I write it off to electric gremlins. I investigated it and nothing has shown up.

Re: [Titanaircraft] Re: Starter Relay wires

Rob,

If you are talking about the starter relay Jabiru ships with the engine or other similar relays with bake-lite housings, just ground the metal frame, then touch power to each of the small poles. Only one of them will do anything, and it will energize the relay with a 'clack!', which is the one you want and the other will do nothing.

Thanks Tim!
The starter switch goes into the small one, ok, I guess you are talking about the two small terminals in the middle, which one of those two? (if you have the starter relay facing up with the two main post upward, and the mounting plate away from you, then you have one terminal on each side)
Thanks,
Rob.

Re: [Titanaircraft] Re: Starter Relay wires

Rob, regarding the two small poles, one is to connect to the starter switch and the other is ground. I might be wrong but I don't think it makes any difference how you hook them up.  I suggest you Google your particular solenoid and look at the wiring diagram.  I found a couple looking at Spruce's stuff.
