Heh. Sorry - I work in the financial services industry so this is first-hand information I'm giving you. You don't have to believe it, but that's not my problem.
Even you said 100K is more for you today than 25K was back in the 80's. That's true for most of the rest of us as well.
How many of you get cost-of-living raises every year? Raise your hands - you folks that get them by changing jobs or getting promoted don't count. For those of you that do, do those raises consistently keep up with inflation? Raise your hands, come on let's see em.....
Ok, now, how many of you could afford one of those 100k airplanes? Er, actually they're not 100K anymore, most of em are drifting upwards to around 150K now. And the cost (in USD) is going up again this year. Go ahead, put those hands up.....
As I said, the biggest contributor is income distribution, followed fairly distantly by the overall sloth of income increases as compared to inflation and other cost increases particularly with "luxury" items like airplanes and rotax engines.
Skepticism about this is kind of like being a global warming skeptic. Eventually the reality kind of smacks you upside the head, but there's still a lot of folk-resistance to the knowledge out there that takes some work to overturn....
