Re: [Titanaircraft] Re: Converting Titan 1 to a taildragger

Thanks Dave,

Your right about carrying sandbags to a distant airport, not exactly pratical. My friend did install a leg that drops down by gravity, and he pushes the plane backwards slightly to lock it. It kinda hangs like a limp bannana when taxing, but seems to lay up against the boom tube when in flight. Myself, I would leave it alone and just enjoy flying it as is. My Gull 2000 barely is on it's nose gear ( 8lbs at weight & balance), and a breeze will dump it on it's tail, I sometimes just put it on it's tail and be done with it.

Kess

I dont know how much you fly but sandbags wont work if you have to carry them to distant hangers. rather than reworking the engineering of such a critical part like the gear leg postiioning, which will certainly effect ground handling in an unpredictable manner, Id try adding a movable strut under the tail section, one that you can actuate using an internal lever, like a push/ pull lever system going to a gear on the strut its connected to. this way its up and nice and clean while flying and when you egress from the plane, you can lever it down and the tail always stays horizontal, even while the front end is light.
the stuff you could prolly get at AC Spruce. as parts it would add very little weight, imho, and could be a sweet little addition to the ac and might look better with 4 feet on the ground.

(: David
