Re: [Titanaircraft] Re: Advantage of Tapered Warp Drive blades

We run the Warp Drive taper tip, and only the Warp Drive taper tip on all Jabirus and Rotax 912 series. 2-Blade on the Jabiru 2200, and 3-blade on the 3300 and 912-series.

Yep, the taper tip is what they call the CS blade platform.

The way it seems to work is at lower relative wind speeds through the prop disk, different lengths of the tips are stalled so the prop doesn't load down the engine. As the relative wind speed goes up, i.e. as you increase speed, more and more of the tip un-stalls and you get more lift from more of the blades.

It really does kind of behave like a CS prop and you get a really wide range of performance from the prop. On my II SS/912ULS, my warp drive hardly varied rpm more than 50 rpm in climbout speeds varying from 65 to 80mph.... I could get cruise speeds of just over 100mph at half throttle and about 5100 rpm.....

I don't use mine on my plane due to a harmonic vibration problem so I run a different prop. But I'm keeping it as a spare in case something happens to my current prop (a Powerfin F model, which is now an orphan due to PF going out of business a couple weeks ago).

I can't think of any disadvantages other than the low speed performance is sacrificed a little bit. I.e. my powerfin pushes at low speeds significantly harder than my WD does....
