[Titanaircraft] Re: Wheel Pants

Not to be a smart ass, but your ASI is probably correct and other's are off, or put the pride fudge factor in. I have had plenty of arguments on this site about over stated airspeeds. I have had a Titan I (23' wing) with a Jab 2200 and also have a Titan S with the 2200 (23-1/2' wing), both airplanes cruised between 105 and 110 mph where others with the same setup were posting numbers of 115 to 125? go figure, I don't even think I could hit 125 at wot.

[Titanaircraft] Re: Climbing EGT

Thanks the rpms dont seem to change the last t 1/8" of the throttle
In level flight the rpms seem to max out at about 6300
During climbout the rpms gets to around 6000 but the egt doesnt seen to raise. but then again I dont stat in a char climb for nuck more than a couple on min.
The only other wierd thing is it only seems to be one of the EGTs climbing.
Thanks

If the RPM wants to go over 6800 in level flight at full throttle, then I'd add 1/2 to 1 degree pitch to the prop.

In order to keep during a flight today I was running at higher RPMs, I noticed that at full throttle and in level flight, one of my EGT kept climbing, I allowed it to climb to 1160, all I have to do is back off of the throttle a little bit and the EGT will drop. What would you guys suggest to look at or is this normal. I dont run at full very often other than during climb out and the EGT stays normal during this time.

Re: [Titanaircraft] Wheel Pants

Bill,

Do you have all wheel pants and gear leg fairings? It also depends on the altitude you're flying at. Out of the 912S-powered Tornados I've flown here (all were 23-1/2' wing), the fastest level-flight indicated cruise speeds I ever saw while flying solo was with an in-flight IVO on a 912S was about 114 MPH at 7000' MSL. Fixed-pitch cruise speeds maxed out at 105-108 MPH.

Proper wing rigging also plays a big part in speed. If the flaps and ailerons are drooped or not set per factory specs, that can also cost a few miles per hour and cause stall speed stability problems with certain rigging configurations. I've seen and flown many Tornados, and have yet to see more than one or two other than ours that were rigged properly and had the flap blocks in the correct location. I've also seen several with the flap blocks placed arbitrarily in the middle of the trailing edge where there is no support, which flexes the trailing edge and flap skin, which also distributes some of the flap flight loads back to the flap motor.

Kimberly,

Hope you are doing well. I have a question that maybe you can help me with.... I'm lucky if I get an avg of 110 out of a 912s 100hp Titan Tornado II. I do have an IVO In-flight adjust prop... Any suggestions of why I'm not getting the speed that others tell me I should be getting. They tell me I should be cruising at least 120.

Hope you had a great Christmas.

Thank you,

Bill

Yes -- many sets. They're not too bad. I've got some video of our first installation that I can edit to either e-mail or make it downloadable for you if you are interested. It doesn't have every tiny detailed step, but it gives you a good idea of what you're in for. Just let me know.

Has anyone installed their own wheel pants? if so, how long, how hard?
Any feedback is appreciated.

Re: [Titanaircraft] Climbing EGT

Dave,

You need either larger main jets, or a another 1/2-degree more pitch in your prop. If only the temperature increases and the RPM doesn't, and you're already at 6500RPM in level flight, then it's the jet. If the RPM wants to go over 6800 in level flight at full throttle, then I'd add 1/2 to 1 degree pitch to the prop.

I am flying a Titan Tornado 1 with a Rotax 582

[Titanaircraft] File - Rules

This is the monthly reminder concerning the rules for you to participate in this group. They're very simple:

1. Topics should be limited to Titan aircraft. Politics, virus warnings spam and other non-Titan topics should be posted elsewhere. The occasional off-topic post is OK, as long as it doesn't grow into a life of its own.

2. Be Courteous. Treat everyone as if you were standing right in front of him or her instead of hiding behind a keyboard. No flaming or vulgar language will be allowed. This type of activity hinders new people from participating and makes others leave. We have a great airplane, so let's have a great group.

Membership in TitanAircraft is a privilege, not a right. You abuse these rules and you will be moderated or removed from the group.
Beyond the rules, basic netiquette should be used. Replies that only benefit one person should be sent directly to that person and not the group. "Me too." and "Amen." type of posts aren't necessary. Be sure to read ALL the posts before you reply. Chances are someone has already provided the answer. A poster looking for someone's contact info, for example, doesn't need to see it a dozen times over the next couple of days.
Do not reply to a whole day's worth of digest messages. Please trim your posts, including the footer at the bottom of the message you're replying to. There's nothing more frustrating to a digest reader than to have to skim through a half-dozen footers at the end of each mail. Leave enough of the message you're replying to so we have a clue what you're referring to.

Thanks,

The owners of TitanAircraft e-mail list.
